Greetings,
I am pleased to announce two new additions to our Spelman community: Bonnie Carter, C'89, and Susan Dunn are two new members of the Spelman College Board of Trustees. I'd like to welcome Gina Bryan, as well, to her new role
in the Office of the President, serving as assistant to the president and reporting to Jarvis Ridges, special assistant to the president.
Passionate about improving the lives of children-at-risk, Bonnie Carter has more than 20 years of innovative leadership in numerous organizations. Those roles include serving as president of the Junior League of Montclair-Newark and as chairman for four years of a decade-long tenure on the board of trustees for County Court Appointed Special Advocates of Essex County, New Jersey.
Before devoting herself full time to becoming a fierce advocate for underserved and underprivileged children, Ms. Carter spent several years as a management consultant specializing in supply chain management, strategic sourcing and business process re-engineering primarily in the pharmaceutical industry.
Ms. Carter says she chose to serve on Spelman's Board of Trustees because she wants to help other young women have a Spelman
experience similar to hers. Her husband, Michael, previously served as an affiliate member of the Spelman Board.
Susan Dunn is a retired elementary school teacher, who has spent the last 15 years as an active volunteer and philanthropic supporter focused on educational opportunities for children in underserved communities. Volunteering twice weekly at the KIPP schools in Newark, New Jersey, she serves on the boards of Teach for America: New Jersey, The Nature Conservancy and a New Jersey branch of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Ms. Dunn is also on the national and Newark boards of BRAVEN, a program that empowers college students with skills for strong first jobs.
Before her career in education, Ms. Dunn worked in media planning at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising on Mattel Toys, Kimberly Clark and American Express. As the daughter of a graduate of Scripps College, she chose to serve as a Spelman trustee because of her belief in the positive impact of
women's colleges and her interactions with Spelman alumnae. Ms. Dunn and her spouse, Tom, are major contributors to the College’s planned Center for Innovation & the Arts.

Prior to joining the Spelman community in July 2018 as the assistant and web content specialist for the Title IX & Compliance office, Gina Bryan worked as a corporate communications consultant for Georgia-Pacific. Additionally, she brings several years of experience working in the higher education communications sector during her time at the University of Pennsylvania. For eight years as the newsroom coordinator for Penn’s Office of Communications, she developed her writing and editing skills through the production of a daily e-newsletter, supported media relations efforts and assisted with event planning.
Among her responsibilities in her new role at Spelman, Ms. Bryan will lead all of the president's logistics related to travel, oversee special events at Reynolds Cottage and those
originating outside of the President's Office, and work with the Office of Communications to increase the visibility of presidential initiatives.
